For those who like basketball, the recent Conrady B-Bash was the place to be and be seen.
For more than two hours after school on Friday, students filled the bleachers to watch and cheer on their teachers and classmates as they participated in three-point and free-throw shooting contests and scooter races.
But what most of the students and staff who attended the Conrady Basketball-Bash came to see were the friendly - yet competitive - abbreviated games Conrady teachers played against the eighth-grade girls’ and boys’ basketball teams.
Students and staff alike were being cheered on by the large crowd that came to show its school spirit. And while everyone displayed great sportsmanship, the teachers “schooled” their youthful counterparts to win both games by close scores and maintain bragging rights for the next year.
In the game against the boys’ eighth-grade team, both teams exchanged baskets until the end when the teachers pulled out a three-point victory.
It was probably safe to say that the teachers - some wearing knee braces and who were subbing in more frequently than their younger opponents - needed the weekend to recuperate from the physical exertion their bodies endured.
A handful of female teachers and staff served as cheerleaders and waved their shiny red pom-poms whenever students and staff made shots.
The B-Bash was yet another successful event Conrady officials put together to encourage student involvement and team-building. The school also continues to host Family Night events that have drawn nice crowds of students and their parents.
