Oak Ridge Named Blue Ribbon Winner

Oak Ridge Has Been Awarded the National Blue Ribbon Award

To the NPD117 Learning Community,

Today, September 19, 2023, the U.S. Secretary of Education recognized Oak Ridge as one of 353 schools across the country as a National Blue Ribbon School for 2023.

The Department of Education recognizes all schools in one of two performance categories, based on all student scores, student subgroup scores and graduation rates. Exemplary High-Performing Schools are among their state’s highest-performing schools as measured by state assessments or nationally normed tests.

Oak Ridge won in the category of “Exemplary High-Performing Schools.”

In her second year as principal at Oak Ridge, Stephanie Johnson said the award is shared among the entire Oak Ridge and District 117 community.

“Today is a very special day for the Mustang family!” Mrs. Johnson said. “The Blue Ribbon Award is a symbol of excellence, a testament to the dedication and hardwork of our Mustang community.  It represents a standard of distinction that few achieve, and it is a recognition that resonates far and wide.  We would like to thank our families, staff, administration and school board.  This is a wonderful honor for everyone connected to Oak Ridge School and NPD117.”

Kevin Buscemi, current Director of Recruitment and Retainment and previous Oak Ridge principal shared, “What I love about the Blue Ribbon Award is that it’s not an overnight success story. It takes many years of hard work from all of the students, staff, and families learning and growing together every single day. I could not be happier for the entire Oak Ridge community - past and present - that was recognized today as a National Blue Ribbon School.”

We are so proud of the students, staff, and entire learning community.  High expectations and high achievement equate to amazing opportunities for our children.

Congratulations to all,

Dr. Jeannie Stachowiak
